Ming's Pretty Heroes Roots

at: Maassilo

The seventh instalment of our "Locals Only" series features none other that Ming's Pretty Heroes in an all time classic Rotterdam setting, the Maassilo. "Roots" is the first single off the band's 3rd Album "Roots and Bones". A melodic and at times melancholic song juxtaposed to the rigid and industrial nature of the location.

Location: Maassilo - Poetry in Concrete

The Maassilo is a former grain silo complex, on the south side of the Maashaven. The construction of the first silo took place in 1911 and subsequently two more silos were added  in 1930 and 1951 respectively. The silo and Maashaven enjoyed great financial development in the better part of the century but could not compete with the upcoming technological automation of the 80’s. The Maassilo suffered even greater decline when the Rotterdam harbour was relocated in the botlek area and closed its doors in Juli 2003 only to be re-opened in 2004 as an event/clubbing location.
